Things to comply with for the test

    • Arrive at the driving test centre and park up about 15 minutes before the scheduled test time.
    • Have your learners permit with you as you will be asked for it by the driver tester.
    • If you obtained your first learners permit on or after 4th April 2011 you must have completed the EDT programme before being allowed to take the driving test.
    • For any Driving Tests conducted after 01/02/2013 it is not neccessary to produce the EDT Logbook but bring it with you and keep it in the car.
    • Insurance, Tax and NCT (if applicable) discs should be current and displayed on the windscreen. The green strip on the side of the Insurance disc must be present.
    • “L” plates must be displayed front and rear. Do not cut down the white portion of the “L” plate.
    • The tyres must have a thread depth of at least 1.6mm, have the correct tyre pressure and have no cuts or bulges on the sides.
    • Brake and Indicator lights will be checked before the practical part of the driving test commences and must be in working order.
    • There must be no warning lights showing on the dashboard display.
    • The handbrake should be in good working order.
    • The vehicle must be clean inside with nothing loose that could move around the vehicle.
    • The driving testers are allowed to use their discretion with regards to tinted glass and cracks on the windscreen.
    • The windscreen must be clean inside and out.
    • There should be no leakage, into the vehicle, of exhaust fumes,
    • If you are a smoker ensure the vehicle is well aired and have that final cigarette outside the vehicle and away from the driving test centre beforehand.
    • Test applicants must wear suitable footwear during the practical driving test. (Flip flops/beach sandals or other backless type footwear or barefoot driving is not acceptable).
    • Vehicles registered outside the State are not accepted for test purposes.
    • Vehicles hired under a hire agreement are not generally insured for a driving test. If you plan to use such a vehicle you must get a note from the hire company indicating that it is insured for the driving test. This must be given to the driver tester on the day of the test.
